It is perhaps the very last thing bothering you as the final preparations for the important day are being addressed.  However, if you’re choosing a normal ceremony, it is best that you ensure that the party is aware of the order of the marriage receptions speeches and toasts. 

When are the toasts offered? 

Of course, it is your decision how you need to run your own wedding!  Generally, the main toasts begin shortly after the main course is finished.  This happens before any cake is cut.  Occasionally, there’s a welcoming toast at the cocktail hour before the marriage dinner.

What’s the order of the wedding reception speeches? 

First up is the daddy of the bride who thanks all those for coming.  Naturally he toasts his child and welcomes the groom into his family. 

The daddy of the groom (often although not always) speaks for the family, welcomes the bride and tells everybody how lucky his boy is! 

The groom sometimes next in the order of wedding speeches; His role in the toasts is to thank all those for coming to the event and particularly he’ll toast his bride.  He also requires time out thank his marriage party and family for all the help he has received. 

The groomsman or best man is next.  He’ll customarily tell some stories with varying level of humor and sensitivity about the groom.  This is always the longest toast and in most circumstances the most eagerly anticipated. 

Next in the order is the bridesmaid-in-chief, who in a corresponding fashion (but with more sensitivity) will tell the audience how proud she is to be in this role and what a great person the bride is. 

Finally, in the typical order marriage or wedding reception speeches, the bride will take the floor.  She’ll re-affirm the thanks her husband has given to everyone and will also acknowledge the help her family, bridal party and of course partner has given her over the past few months. 

Occasionally, the ma of the bride or maybe other family members speaks but that’s not as common as against the order set out above.
