Unexpected Windfall Pays For A Shopping Trip
Posted by man | Under Uncategorized Wednesday Mar 10, 2010In spite of the recent economic downturn a fortuitous investment resulted in a small cash windfall for the family coffers. My wife and I have been on a cash restricted existence for several months so we felt our spirits would be brightened by a bit of travel.
I rarely travel without a reason but travel is its own reward for my wife. My purpose for this trip was to make my wife happy – always a good reason. Since this trip was for her I let her pick the destination. We found ourselves going to the downtown area of a large nearby city. My wife needed a specific shade of brown boots to complete a new outfit. I was basically a chauffeur.
I already knew my day was going to be filled with following my wife from store to store lugging armloads of bags. Having had years to adapt to this activity I have developed an interest in observing the instinctive behavior as demonstrated by the modern female hunter-gatherer. I have learned to predict most actions but I am still occasionally surprised.
In my support role in the shopping team I find occasion to practice my own particular male hobby. I remain alert for any flash of well-tanned cleavage above a low-cut top or a shapely thigh below a short skirt. My primary attention remains on my wife but I can be momentarily distracted when the scenery is nice enough.
This was a winter trip so I expected my sightseeing opportunities would be limited. My wife on the other hand expected to be rewarded with a large selection of sale prices in every store she visited. I hoped to visit some music stores to check the prices on a dreadnought acoustic guitar I’ve been dreaming of but I really did not expect to find one on this trip.
By the end of the day were satisfied with our shopping. My wife found the exact boots she wanted, and at an unbelievable price. She also bought a couple packs of assorted scrapbooking papers. Seemed a strange purchase considering the same thing was probably available at local craft stores back home.
I actually found the guitar I wanted but I could not allow myself to spend more on the trip than she did. I said the cold damp weather on the trip home might warp the wood.
With the money I saved from the guitar non-purchase we were able to splurge on a very nice meal before returning home. A nice meal in a quiet romantic restaurant is also an excellent reason to take a short trip. A friendly and efficient waitress is as much a treat as a glimpse of some nice scenery.
