Beneficial Brief Best Man Speeches

Howdy, here again with more top tips on how you can get through the agony of giving the Best Man Speech at a wedding!  I’ve done it three times, and every time it got less complicated because I simply applied some basic ground rules.  One of the key ones are, if you are not sure what to talk about, doesn’t whatever you do try and pad it out.  Nobody wants to sit though 15 minutes of waffle.  Especially when all they actually want to do is get to the bar!  Also, if you’re truly not confident about public speaking, why would you like to subject yourself to standing there for that length of time?

In brief, keep it short, keep it simplistic, and keep it to the point.  So what are the bare essentials that you have to include in a good and short, Best Man Speech? You need to compliment the bride.  Hopefully you like her, though not too much.

Hopefully she looks gorgeous.  That makes it way easier, but remembers it’s got to be a sincere compliment, and a safe, family-friendly one.  Don’t go mad; otherwise it will sound like you are envious of the groom.

Next, you need to say a few words about the groom.  Make sure you thank him for asking you to be the best man, and it wouldn’t hurt to make a reference to the proven fact that you’re not thanking him for having to make an address.  After that, you sometimes want to tell one or two stories about the groom.  If they are funny, then the whole better, but do not attempt to force smirks if they are not there.

If your stories actually are not funny, then be at liberty to add a couple of jokes, but there are a couple of rules here too.  Don’t tell too many – it is a Best Man Speech, not a stand up routine.  Select sensibly – make sure the jokes you use are acceptable for family viewing.  Try them out first, partly to be sure they’re funny, and partly to make sure you can tell them correctly.

Lastly, you want to assert some words about the bride and groom as a couple, wish them well, and talk about how satisfied and successful you’re sure their marriage will be.  You last task is to propose a toast to the bride and groom.

See, you’re done!  Was not so bad, was it?  A short, sweet speech like that will last roughly five mins – easy on you and easy on the onlookers, and if you are truly not happy about the whole process, easy on you too.
