When he got down on one knee, you said yes. Where do you go from here? The work is just beginning to plan the wedding day of your dreams. These tips should help keep you calm and organized as you plan the most important day of your life.
Spread the Word
Spreading the word is easier than ever. In the old days, an announcement in the paper was standard. But these days, there’s no need for anything so formal. It’s now as simple as tweeting your message and the whole world will know about your wedding.
An announcement is not just a way to blow your own horn. Although everybody likes a little bit of tooting. But it also lets your friends and family prepare for the event as well. Everyone has scheduling issues, clothes and presents to buy, skin to tan, and weight to lose.
Get Started on the Planning Straight Away
Although you would like to think you are the only bride on earth and from now until you say I do, the world will not be focused on you. But thousands of other women will also be feeling like they are the only bride-to-be in the world as well. That means that you will all be competing for the wedding venue, caterers, dresses, flowers, and the rest of the works. By planning ahead, you can make sure that you aren’t the bride-to-be who misses out on her first choice.
Getting Started
It’s easy to say that you should plan ahead, but how do you actually do it? The first thing you should do to get organized is go to your local stationery or book store and buy yourself a notebook. Make sure the notebook is one that you are happy with, and isn’t going to fall apart after regular use. After your wedding you’ll want to keep it tucked away with your garter and a piece of wedding cake. While you’re there, you might as well treat yourself to a special pen.
It is in this notebook that you will record everything that you will need to know or remember for your wedding, from phone numbers and websites through to pictures or dresses and flower arrangements and contact details for friends and family. You will make notes of anything and everything that you will need to refer to later like your future mother in-law’s dress size to food allergies afflicting your wedding party. Although you may be tempted to simply record this information in your PDA or cell phone, just remember that these electronic items have a shelf life. Once the battery has been depleted or lost, all of your memories will be gone as well.
If you’re thinking that this all seems like a lot of useless work, just wait until that frantic moment, days before your wedding day, when you need to get in touch with the caterer or florist and have no idea where you put his card. A notebook will become your number one, sure-fire, bride-zilla prevention kit.
Make Sure You Communicate
Effective communication is not just about what you say, it is also about making sure that other people understand you. In the world of weddings that mean that you must get everything in writing. When you ask for a quote, make sure you get it in writing. Likewise, get written receipts for promises of delivery or work to be done. Keep your receipts and quotes stored safely in your notebook. Make sure you contact your vendors as your wedding day approaches to ensure there are no problems or delays likely to cause problems. When possible, do this follow-up via email so that you have the confirmation in writing.
