Does anyone have any cute, not tacky, ideas for a Nascar Racing Wedding Reception?

Thursday Jun 24, 2010

I am having a Fall wedding but wanted to have a FUN, not tacky, racing reception with bits and pieces of nascar/racing all around. Any ideas? Looking for any pictures for centerpieces, favors, etc-as well as games during the reception in lieu of the duck dance and ymca

Well, it’s not going to be the easiest thing to do but it’s still possible.

My ideas:
1. Stick to a red, white, black decorating scheme.
2. For the cake, again go with black and white. Checkered flag style edging will get the point across but still look nice. On the top you could have one of those "bride drags groom away" toppers with a little nascar vehicle next to it so it looks like you’re dragging him away from the races.
3. Have a cute motto like "racing into love" and use that on your favors. Just a cute little red bag with
4. Maybe instead of tossing the boquet you could have the women race towards it instead. Or use that idea for the garter toss. Before the race the DJ could get into it with, "women (or men), start your engines."

The whole point to making this look good is to borrow things from Nascar that are subtle. If you don’t go overboard it can look very cute, if you go nuts with it then it’s going to look more than tacky.

EDIT:
found this cake topper:

(to be honest I would get rid of the flags behind them, that’s too much)

just switch out the middle plate with a white and black checkered one

Sorry, but that’s impossible.

Good luck

I’m going to have to side with Blunt on this one. I’m not sure how to pull that off.

Here are some images http://images.google.com/images?q=nascar%20wedding&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi and most of them aren’t pretty.

Sorry, but incorporating Nascar into a wedding reception screams tacky, no matter how fun or cute the ideas may seem. I mean, the whole Nascar culture is pretty tacky. And it will be even more so when incorporated into a wedding.

Isn’t that an oxymoron?

Omg my family would so love this! I love this idea. I think its your wedding who cares..do what you want. It will be something people never forget!!! GOOD LUCK!
I think checkered table clothes would be cute. What about like hot wheels cars as favors. Or Nascar mugs filled with the race cars candies. Nascar shot glasses. You could have the guys wear checkered ties and the girls black dresses. I would go with black and white as your colors. Your theme could be let the race begin. I like the idea of having the nascar cut outs of the driver standing around the room. Most bars have them you may be able to borrow them.

here are some websites I found hope they help

You could have a checkered flag cake, or you could put a different nascar toy car at each persons dining spot. For center pieces, you could have flowers and a checkered flag or someones number on a flag (Dale Jr., Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, etc) Have mini flags that you stick into the bouquet.

Nascar and not tacky is pretty much an oxymoron.

Sorry, but I don’t think there is anyway to pull off a classy Nascar reception.

Yes I agree with Nascar and wedding equal tacky.

Don’t play games at your reception. Not a good idea.

You could have a nascar grooms cake. And maybe little cars to hold the place cards. and that is enough bits.. I wouldn’t use anything from Nascar for centerpieces.

You should get little checkered flags for the guests and have them wave them (instead of the bubbles) for the recessional walk.

have your dj announce your arrival into the reception as "Coming around Turn 4 is Mr. & Mrs….. in the lead"

It’s not a very classy theme.

A co-worker had these for her save the date magnets because her fiance was into race cars:

That’s as far as I’d let the racing theme go if I were you.

I think your idea is adorable and very do-able. Having just been to a Cleveland Indians themed wedding, I think I may be able to help.

The #1 rule you should stick to is: Less is more. Going over the top with the theme is what makes something "tacky." Consider your "theme" the accent to a traditional wedding. Here’s a few ideas I have:

1) Wrap your flowers (and/or the bridesmaids flowers if they have any) in black & white checkered ribbon.

2) Rename the traditional assignments in the wedding after Pit Crew assignments. For Example:
- Mom & Dad = Team Owners
- Best Man/Maid of Honor = Crew Chiefs
- Bridesmaids/Groomsmen = Tire Changers, Jack Men/Women, Tire Carriers, Catch Can, Gas Can, etc.
- Ushers = Spotters

3) Instead of "You may kiss the bride" it could be "Ladies & Gentleman Start Your Engines!"

4) At the reception, instead of table numbers name the tables after racetracks on the circuit (ie: Homestead, Infineon, Pocano, Bristol, ect.) or model the table numbers after car numbers and make the place cards look like the pit road signs.

5) Have your bridal party wave checkered flags as you enter into your reception.

6) Model your wedding cake after the Sprint Cup and set the cake table up like Victory Lane.

7) If your not naming the tables after the racetracks, rename your food (ie: Daytona 500 Salad, instead of Beef Wellington it could be Beef Watkins Glen, etc.)

8) Here’s some race themed centerpieces that aren’t too tacky: http://www.awesomeevent.com/mofcart/racekits.html

9) Here’s some "Just Married" car candle wedding favors: http://www.buyweddingfavorsonline.com/jumacarcawef.html

10) Here’s another link for small items to accent your wedding: http://www.coloradocarla.com/NascarWeddings.htm

Hope this helps.

I don’t know. For me, Nascar and tacky are synonymous. Not that it couldn’t be fun, though.

I would say keep it minimal. Like maybe the groomsmen’s ties and or vests could have a nascar theme (I’m sure they make them). And maybe the cake could incorporate nascar.

I like scy80 answer. As a NASCAR fan myself, less would be more. Decorating in the black & white checkered would be the best. I also like naming the tables after the race tracks. Maybe just use the ones that you guys have visited. Or you could use the names of race car drivers.

I would not listen to those that say NASCAR is tacky. You could do it very nice.

You could design your table at the reception like a winners circle for the two of you.

Good idea. I thought of doing that when I was engaged to my ex over 3 years ago, but there wasn’t enough stuff out there to pull it off without being tacky. I like ALL of scy’s stuff! I don’t know if I’d do black/white checkered table cloths. That could be a little too much. Not too much racing stuff, but if you’re having 30 some guest tables, black and white tablecloths on each one might look weird. I’d do one table white, one black, etc. I have one idea that I haven’t seen. If you’re doing prearranged seating, instead of numbering the tables, what about naming them after the drivers. You could have a Jeff Gordon table, a Dale Jr table, etc. Scy did good…This is about all I’ve got on top of hers….lol.
