What color wedding flowers go with lapis (dark purple) dresses?

Sunday Feb 28, 2010

My bridesmaids have dark purple dresses. I am trying to find the cheapest flowers. I thought I wanted dark purple and white carnations, but my florist told me that would end up looking like polka dots, does anyone have another suggestion?
***I should add that everything else is bright white (my dress, etc)

I would say white, deep purple, fuschia, deep blue even. maybe some yellow/orange, looks stunning. check out www.weddingsbysemia.com. They have so many pics you can really see colors. Awesome ideas…

I would try something sort of cream-ish. Or if you want color – light purple.

As an option, you could buy "trailing" silk flowers like mini nasturtiums. White carnies in different sizes can be worked to look elegant but that takes time. Your florist isn’t very imaginative. She could make inexpensive bouquets out of carnations and, if she used greenery like a small hosta or ivy that has white-veined leaves, it would NOT look like polka dots at all. Would look fab. Pink would also look good or light green with the same white-veined greenery. Carnations are your best bet as far as cost. Like everything else, it takes imagination and effort but you can make it look elegant and lovely. The purple/white theme will look fabulous. Congratulations.

Iris would look nice, my cousin had deep purple dresses for her bridesmaids, the flowers were Iris (purple with a little bit of yellow). Then for her bouquet she had white and purple lillies. Sounds odd but looked beautiful!
If you want something that stands out a bit more, something a mixture of cream and yellow flowers could look pretty too.
Good luck and Congratulations! :)

I think a light purple or pink flower would look better. Consider something other than carnations too. I think regardless of the color it’ll still have that polka dot look.

Lillies, irises, even some roses can be found in a pale pink/lavender color.

Yellow! Ask your florist what the cheapest yellow flower is available.
White and Eggshell, and Ivory are so boring and so blahhh!
Add some color
