i like the idea, and think its totally fine. no one will care if they sit at a table with out flowers

Sorry, but it would look like you were cutting corners. Centerpieces can be anything from real flowers , to silk flowers, to candles but they should all be the same. You could place candles in pretty glass containers and set the containers on mirrors. The reflections are really pretty and give the illusion of a lot of light. Place clear, colored stones on the mirrors that match your color scheme. These are available at party stores.

As long as the room doesnt look unbalanced I don’t see why not. I wouldn’t mind one bit. As much as people butt in when you’re planning, when it actually comes to the wedding day I really don’t think anyone is going to care about these kind of details as much as you do.

I think I might actually mix up the centerpieces too, now that you’ve brought it up. My mom’s allergic to flowers anyway.

I am thinking of doing this. I think it would be nice looking and would step out from the traditional. Have flowers on some and candles and glass on others. If you make both look nice, they will work.

I think that although you do it randomly, it does give the air of every other table being "special" compared to the non-floral arrangements. I would simply put the centre piece you have chosen at every table (I agree, without the apple), and use the money saved for another aspect of your wedding, or use it to add a small floral arrangement to every table.

I think that might tend to look a little unbalanced depending on what you do with the non-floral centerpieces and especially if you have assigned seating, some people might wonder why they were put at a table with the "less special" centerpiece- you know it, some people would think that. What you could do, instead, is find a centerpiece idea that mixes limited floral and non-floral pieces together to make something stunning. OR, just do candles… everywhere. Our centerpiece actually was a square clear glass vase with tissue paper in it in the colors of our wedding, containing special squigly shaped bread sticks my sister (who is a professional caterer) baked for the (Italian) dinner, surrounded by candles. Quite different, and quite cheap.

EDIT: "Spring Garden", huh? I see white wicker baskets filled with flowers and greenery. More greenery, less flowers = still pretty with less cost.

Why not just go with the non-floral centerpieces?

I have also seen potted plants (ivy) used as centerpieces, or fruit and chocolate dipped pretzels made into centerpieces — you can do that yourself.
