How can I bring a plant if I’m moving from the UK to the USA?

Wednesday Jan 5, 2011

I have an ivy plant that grew from a cutting in a floral arrangement from my wedding. It is now flourishing and lovely, free of pests and grown indoors. I’m wondering if there’s any way of bringing this very special plant with me through an international move from London to California. Any suggestions or advice?

Although as suggested there is a route through the importation process, I believe that it would be very difficult if not impossible to get approval for this single plant, if it is not a native plant to north america, then this would be a major stumbling block.

Inexpensive Flowers for wedding?

Sunday Jan 2, 2011

I live in the Houston area and looking for a floral company to do the flowers for our wedding. Does any one have any suggestions on places or ways to do floral arrangements without going over your budget?

lots of ways you can reduce the cost of flowers….

1. you can order flowers online from wholesalers who sell to the public and do the arrangements yourself or have one of your talented friends do them and just go to a local florist for your coursages and bridal bouquets

2. if you know someone who knows how to do them, have one of your friends make up all the flowers. and just order the loose stems for them either from online or a local wholesaler.

3. be sure to choose flowers that are currently in season because they will cost less.

4. use simple bouquets of handtied flowers for yourself and your maid. muchless expensive than multiflowered bouquets.

5. for table centerpieces, square vases filled with inexpensive hydrangeas look great and are cheap. the hydrangeas are such full headed flowers that you don’t need as many to make a really full looking arrangement…and they come in several great colors.

don’t be afraid to order your flowers from an online source. most of them are really good and the flowers often arrive more fresh than the ones you get from florist shops. also….don’t overlook the possibility of getting your flowers from price club, sam’s club, or costco….all of them sell bulk flowers.

Houston Tx, Trying to plan a wedding and keep it cheep looking for nice venues any suggesttions?

Monday Dec 27, 2010

Ok so I found a few parks and such and I found one actual venue t hat is relatively cheap I dont want it to look cheap we will do our own decorating any we are cooking the food, making floral arrangements centerpieces, I don’t mind all that I just dont really want to spend over 3k on this wedding. I found a great bakery that is affordable, nice affordable dress, etc. just don’t want to really spend over 1500 on a venue. (Wedding and Reception sight)

If you are willing to go to Galveston go to http://www.galvestonhistory.org they rent out their historical properties relatively inexpensive, especially on weeknights.

Wedding budget question?

Monday Dec 27, 2010

Is there a wedding website that has a prefabricated list of wedding necessities (cake, photographer, wardrobe, floral arrangements, etc.) and a typical cost of each? I understand this seems slightly idiotic, as not every couple is looking to spend the same amount on each thing, but I just want a basic estimate so I can consider how long it may take for my fiancé and I to save up for our wedding.

http://planning.theknot.com/wedding-budget

The Knot Wedding Budgeter provides budget estimates for your wedding expenses based on your total budget, number of guests, and number of attendants. It also lets you enter all of your actual wedding costs so you can track your budget online. Even better, the Wedding Budgeter is completely interactive and customizable to help effortlessly guide you through your wedding payments and purchases.

The Knot Wedding Budgeter divides your budget into categories that are, in turn, broken down into all the items that you may need, from flowers to formalwear. Don’t plan on purchasing something on the list? No problem! Simply uncheck the item and update your list. The Budgeter automatically reallocates the money you would have spent to your other items. There’s also a payment tracker to help you stay up-to-date on items that require deposits and multiple payments.

To take advantage of all the features of The Knot Wedding Budgeter, you have to have an account (it takes two seconds!). And it’s free.
