I could understand how you’re not made of money. But that doesn’t mean you can’t make everything look pretty!

If you already have have candy on the way, a little more wouldn’t hurt. Everyone loves candy and the best candy to have is chocolate! These are nice if you like European chocolate and you get a lot for a little.

Maybe your guests want to have fresh breath after they finish their meal. Give them mints instead so they could have something to make their breath smell as nice as it does after they brush.

My husband and I are both florists/ plant people. So my sister-in-law (a graphic design person) made little envelopes (the kind that come from the florist with the little card inside) of wild flower seeds with a little cardstock cover (it looked kinda like a big matchbook) with a picture of us and some flowers and "But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever" 2 Peter 3:18 And they had our names and the date on the back. It’s great if you can come up with something that has to do with your interests.
The other idea I had was something I did for a bridal show. Go to Sams or BJ’s and get a couple big bags of the Hershey’s Miniatures or Nuggets. Then get a box of address labels at Staples and print your own personalized candy bar "wrappers". They looked really classy and they’re so easy and cheap. You can do this with full size candy bars too (you just print them on paper and tape them around the bars.) And you can get the full size bars by the case at Sams club or BJ’s too. we’ve got bubbles, and iv made up little organza bags of sweets in the colour scheme of our wedding. iv done some with chewy sweets I remember from my childhood, some with dolly mixtures, and will be making some truffles to put in the others a few days before our big day. With the favours being edible, I know that most will be eaten or taken home for peoples kids, but if they arent eaten im sure my son and nephew will enjoy finishing them off. I also made little cards with the same picture of a rose we had on our order of ceremony and "thank you" printed on them and put one of these inside each bag. the people I have told about the favours think they are a fantastic idea – something to take people back to their childhood.

Why don’t you put your money to good use and make a donation to a charity that is special to you and DH? If you do this, place a short note explaining that "in lieu of favors, we have made a donation has been made to the XXX society on behalf of our family and friends." That way, you’re making a difference, eliminating clutter, and not doing unnecessary spending.

I can’t tell you how many times favors are left on the table or thrown out when the guest gets home. It’s just a waste of money and nobody really cares if they leave the reception with a trinket.

It’s sad, but most people that attend weddings could care less about the favors and they won’t be remembered the next day. I’ve even heard of a few weddings where half of the guests left their favors on the table! A meaningful & practical thing to do is contribute to you and your fiance’s favorite charitable organization in lieu of favors. You don’t have to tell anyone how much your contributing, it could be as little as $1/guest. On each table, have a tasteful card or sign that reads "In lieu of favors, we have made a contribution in your honor to (insert charity here)" and include a brief explanation of what they do. For example, my brother served in Iraq while in the Army, so when I get married, I want contribute to a charity that helps veterans or families of soldiers that were wounded or killed. Choose whatever charity is the most meaningful, make the donation, tell your guests about it in a gracious way. Trust me, no one will ever miss the hersheys kisses & jelly beans!

I think you should make something based on your and your FH’s interests. My fiance and I run a bartending company together, and one of the favors we’re giving to guests is a little bag with wine bottle stoppers and wine pourers. We can get those for really cheap (bags at a crafts store, pourers and stoppers at a restaurant supply place). We are also getting personalized wedding matchbooks with our names and wedding date, and since our wedding has a beach theme, we are making kind of message-in-a-bottles … buying glass bottles with corks, attaching wallet-sized pics of us, and filling the bottles with sand and shells. All together, we’re not spending much at all on the favors; I think the biggest expense was the wallet-sized pictures and the matchbooks.

I would suggest doing something like that — something that says "you" and also is cheap, yet thoughtful. If you look on wedding planning websites, you can see some of the things that companies offer and overcharge for, and maybe think of some way that you can make it cheaper yourself. (That’s what I did with the bottles, and they look amazing!)

For my favors, I’m doing a couple different things. Of course I’m having bubbles! As for my other favors, I saw a cute one on a website for sale that was called a spoonful of kisses, and it’s a plastic spoon with a few (5-6) hershey kisses, wrapped in tulle (http://www.tullesource.com/ has lots of colors for relatively inexpensive, this is where I got mine!) and on the tag it says "A spoonful of kisses from the Mr. and Mrs." with our names and wedding date… I’m not buying them, though, cuz it’s actually cheaper to do it myself, and not that hard to make.

So for all of that (and I’m looking at doing favors for 150 guests!) I’m going to spend less than $100… not too shabby

I really like the idea of edible favors. It seems like other things get thrown away and forgotten. I am going to be making truffles (they aren't that hard to make and are pretty cheap to make yourself, plus they are delicious) and then put them in little gift boxes. Tasty, practical, and elegant looking. You can get boxes pretty cheap off e-bay. I just saw a lot for 200 boxes with ribbon for $30.

Personalized M&M’s in boxes (in the color of your wedding). You can find whatever you and your FI’s favorite movie, or vaction spot you can use those type of ideas as your favors.
